Montgomery Village Resource Center

The Montgomery Village Resource Center is a service consolidation hub working in close collaboration with the Gaithersburg Cares Hub to give additional support and coordination to meet Covid-19 pandemic needs in Montgomery Village and the surrounding vicinity.

Our primary goal is to meet the basic needs of Montgomery Village and Gaithersburg residents, with as few barriers as possible.

Our secondary goal is to serve as a satellite resource center that is available to the other organizations and key community partners to strengthen supply chain and logistics. By working together, we can all work better for the Village and surrounding communities.

Our work is characterized by our commitment to human dignity, mutual respect, and cultural sensitivity. We serve anyone who has need regardless of race, creed, color, religion, or background.

How to get involved

Volunteer individually or with your church, office, family or friends by filling out this sign-up sheet with your availability. We currently have three volunteer activities each week:

  • Monday: Equity Hub food distributions to local Elementary Schools
  • Wednesday: MVRC Hub open-hours for walk ins and appointments
  • Friday: Grab-and-Go Food Distribution

Support MVRC financially by enabling us to purchase resources by making a donation to Cross Community Church, our parent organization

Directly donate or connect us with an organization willing to donate any of the following items:

  • Food
  • Diapers, wipes, baby formula
  • Toiletries, feminine hygiene products, cleaning supplies
  • Over the counter medicines
  • Winter outerwear (coats, blankets)
What we do

MVRC distributes fresh, healthy produce as well as staple foods to local residents on a weekly basis.

We anticipate the Resource Center being able to help meet the needs of over 500 households on a weekly basis through:

  • Direct distribution through weekly drive-up food distributions
  • Targeted deliveries to homes, neighborhoods and schools
  • Distribution and services to appointments and walk-in participants at least two days per week

In addition to food, we gather and distribute needed supplies such as:

  • Diapers, wipes, and baby formula
  • Toiletries, cleaning supplies, and feminine hygiene products
  • Over-the-counter medicines
  • Winter coats and supplies

We also serve as a referral center for other social services: mental health, domestic violence, Covid-testing, housing and rent assistance. We hope to participate in mobilization for vaccine distribution and pandemic recovery plan in 2021.

History

MVRC was formed in December 2020 under Cross Community Inc. in Gaithersburg, MD. Since the onset of the pandemic, Cross Community has been deeply engaged in Covid-19 relief work, meeting the needs of the most highly impacted and vulnerable in our communities.

MVRC works hand-in-hand with the Gaithersburg Cares Hub, the Montgomery County Food Security Task Force, and the faith community to accomplish this important work.
