The Cross
We are a community centered on the cross of Jesus Christ. It is a symbol of shame to some and foolishness to others. But to us it is the centerpiece of our identity as followers of Jesus. Through the cross, God reconciled a broken world to himself. And because of the cross, we have a ministry of reconciliation, building a community that crosses socio-economic, racial and cultural barriers. Because Jesus crossed the Great Divide, took on flesh, and became the Bridge between God and man, we can cross diverse communities to advance unity and mutual care and understanding for a better world for all.
The Kintsugi Bowl
We are also a community established upon the grace of God. This is represented by the Kintsugi bowl. The ancient Japanese art of Kintsugi took various, broken pieces of pottery and put them together with gold glue to form a vessel of greater quality, beauty, and strength than prior to its breaking. Similarly, God takes diverse, broken lives and brings healing and restoration through the grace of the gospel and through the ministry of reconciliation with other broken people. The result is something altogether more glorious.
